Lift inside ski (stork turns) 2. Side slip edge set gives you accuracy and control when rotational seperation 1. https://videos.usskiandsnowboard.org/alpineed/detail/videos/skills-quest/video/5582457553001/phase-2-straight-run-side-slip-edge-set 3. Flat the skis, traverse, and then edge 1. ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIFDZVFYfJo&list=PLA893DD2FE6198306&index=5) 6. Arrows(pols) facing down the hill 1. ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRPI-TJjLig) ### Steeps ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BoHnTFZHL0) ### Remember 1. Level up your shoulders to maintain a stronger grip on your outside ski (like remember the hockey stop upper body facing down the hill) 1. ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqIAPjB6jbk) 2. All flow to skiing 1. ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xVzE8YHXKc) Learnings in the Ski lesson on march 31st 1. In steeps, I tend to extend my outside ski leg and lot of weight goes into the side ski. and because of that I dont get the edge on my outside ski and skis go forward in front of me. I need to practice stork turns, and do proper C turns and Z turns. I do C turns in mellow places because I feel the grip of the edge. like in this video 1. ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7skgkq0P8g) 2. Here is a good drill to fix edging 1. ![](https://i.imgur.com/SyntXPu.png) 2. ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCiIzxLXPeE) 2. I also learnt that hips should towards the fall line and not u 3. 3 I met Tim from snowpals and he asked me if I have fear when I Look at steeps. I said yes, and then he advised me to do jump turns. ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQyI7DcmXlM) ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVNs68kPuuQ) Hop turn, the ski comes of the ground right at the start of the turn. ![](https://i.imgur.com/tWGFV71.jpeg) spend more time in the fall line, delay turns. count 1 1thousand 21thousand turn ![](https://i.imgur.com/p2TelRC.png) tap your inside ski, to ensure you are full pressure on the outside ski ![](https://i.imgur.com/EYOAjJp.png) ![video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wAcYP3LR6o) []() this video , toppling ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGgF-hQrZqc) ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35R6nuNHbo4) the belly button to outside ski, inside hand in front ![](https://i.imgur.com/TcTuAdr.png) ### edging main thing I learnt today is the early edge videos in big picture skiing, where he says keep the new outside leg on top with its edge without moving the weight and then find the body weight in the middle and then move to that ski. I also like the tom gelie video on doing edging with pizza turns , 1,2,3. start by placing poles and bend the pole by pressing the upper part of the boot on the pole, then the knees. Then doing it while moving side slipping, then J turns, then link the J turns. increase the edge slowing like a dimmer switch.. up and over drill. keep speed... without speed you cant edge in parallel signed up with jason on instagram, he tells me i Need to stand on my right foot , that is next step and then ask me to watch some of his videos. I also signed up for carv camp in kirkwood. they say, I will be able to able after the two day program in blues. I need to video my self and figure out a list of drills, 1. tom gelie video on doing edging with pizza turns , 1,2,3. 2. then the outside leg on top on its edge and learn to trust it on its middle 3. places poles and bend them and then do side slipping rails, J turns , links ------- well ski on instagram, saved to ski Skiing with the instructor from Boston Katz Feb last week 2025 Knee to ski tips Flash light down the center from ski poles. See both the shoulders in the shadow. Take your hand and touch the opposite hip. Left turn. Take left hand to right hip. Take left hand to right hip. Don’t traverse too much Show the bottom of the skis to trees on the side. Not the bottom of mountain. --—- Vail trip I went on a 3.5 day ski trip to Vail, Colorado with Mathias. On day 1 when I started I was slow and got super tired (may be it was the travel). But day two onwards I picked up things. I got the drag the poles downward the slope drill, and the strong pole plant technique from Jason and this started giving me a grip. and I was able to do a lot of blacks with bumps (soft snow). I gained confidence. Hands on the hips drill gave me more grip.. that banana shape Short turns were fast due to the unweighting + rhythm got in due to pole plants. Then slowly I started carving, using the edging 123 and the inriger https://studio.youtube.com/playlist/PLq4ZqwBTtmUuXlLWS_hBzBnWrvuQL1MVN/videos -- This thread has a lot of things on skiing short turns https://www.skitalk.com/threads/whats-your-recipe-for-a-traditional-short-radius-non-carved-turn.22665/ The big picture skiing video on pivot slips for skiing moguls has an amazing section on how to keep your upper body facing down the mountain, and just using the foot (below the knees) to turn. Use the inside legs heels as the pivot point , and the download legs hamstring pulls the down leg out of the way. for this you need to roll the ski flat a lot by almost turning them uphill and the feet tipping. its a good video to watch, especially the last 8 minutes where he recaps ----- Moghuls - side slipping tibia straight so that no edge on outside foot. above foot everything facing down, bum crack facing the uphill., - pivot slips, outside leg heel is the pivot point, inside leg is pull up using hamstring to clear way to rotate. pick a steep slope. on less steep do 45 degree pivot slips - use the bumps to reduce speed, and ski perpendicular to the fall lines on the side of the bumps. turn on top of the bumps - retract on top of the bumps and extend on the troughs. Carving - Do rolls on one leg - Do in riggers - And hand drag drill (hand drag drill youtube tom gellie) - ![](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6B6icv_HX84) - Short Turns - Hockey stops - feel light, and turn with entire body facing forward except below the feet. use full force from hips fully to the inside edge of outside leg to full stop, and the rib cage should be exagerated to the pole plant. like below. there is a slight angulation at the knee, not too much. So you feel strong to get the force... use the hips to get more of the edge angle and put full force ![](https://i.imgur.com/AZnbIHZ.png) - Wedge turns to initiate the turn, adduction and abduction to get edge angle. Then turn the ski and use force to do a hockey on the side. Use the force from that to get the edge angle for the next step. - A good pole plant also gives you a good force to float and go the next turn ------- Skiied kirkwood on [[2025-03-14]] with smriti, shivani and abhi The learnings from that ski trip are 1. pole points make a huge difference. pole plant and then lift the chest up and over the ski to initiate the turn. when you pole plant pull the belly button towards the poles that gives you early forward movement, then chest up gives your transition weight release 2. Pull your inner leg towards the outside ski and try to angle the hips and shoulders to get banana shape 3. adduction get early edge and turn your skis 4. for carving press your shins down the edge and lock the edge in with force, swords drill 5. need to work on moghuls for sure.. Sad that I missed the moghuls session at kirkwood. But I met katrina, whose friend johnny can teach me. i would film him. 6. The feel when you carv and go fast is what keeps getting me back to skiing -------------
